Active Participation of Timor-Leste in the CPLP Women’s Network

New York, March 14, 2024. In order to strengthen relations among the member states of CPLP, Timor-Leste has demonstrated its commitment to promoting gender equality by actively participating in the CPLP Women’s Network. This was revealed at a working breakfast event held on the sidelines of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW68) conference in New York today.

Timor-Leste’s Ambassador to the UN, Dionisio Babo Soares, along with Armando Da Costa, Director-General of the Secretary of State for Equality of Timor-Leste, bolstered Timor-Leste’s presence at the event. They shared information about concrete steps taken by Timor-Leste to promote the role of women in national development.

“The Timor-Leste government is committed to promoting gender equality and social inclusion as the foundation for sustainable development,” Ambassador Dionisio Babo Soares stated in his address. “Our participation in the CPLP Women’s Network is a concrete step towards this goal.”

During the event, Timor-Leste expressed its readiness to collaborate with other CPLP member states in strengthening the role of women in various fields, including politics, economics, and social spheres.
